I haven't driven/rode in a car without a seatbelt since I was eight years old. Glad you're alive/smart. <3

Thank god you are ok! What was the cause of the accident? What happened to your legs? :(

That must have shaken you to the core. I'm so glad you are not too badly hurt.

the person i was with caused the accident because the distracted me and blocked my view of the road, so he could be held responsible and might be required by law to buy me a new car. he was badly injured though because he was not wearing his seatbelt although i had yelled at him to put it on. that was basically his own fault.

ahhh crap, sounds like its gonna be a complex issue to get sorted out!
Main thing is you're alive and pretty well. I hope the guy you were with pulls through ok.
here in australia you're required by law to wear a seatbelt, 99% of people do these days. i have no fuckin idea what would make someone not wear a seatbelt in a car for the exact reason you and your friend have found out. they save your head from being propelled through the front windscreen.
if ya need to talk about anything or just wanna be distracted lemme know, im on msn. =]

In Illinois (and most other states in the U.S.) we have seatbelt laws--"Click it or Ticket"--yet you still see probably 40% of people not wearing them. I just don't understand it; however, murder is against the law and, more likely to be broken, there are laws against speeding and jaywalking, yet you see people doing those things all the time. Heck, I'm guilty of both. Lucky for me Chicago police officers have bigger things to worry about than me crossing the street outside the white lines. Granted, if I did that in the suburbs, I'd likely get a 75 dollar ticket.

Anyway, long story short, you're required to wear seat belts here, too--people just choose not to for whatever reason. ):
Wow, way to ramble. I suck.

im pretty sure there is a law in every single state that you must wear a seatbelt when driving. there is one here in michigan too and you can get fined a $250 ticket for not wearing one. if they give me the ticket for what HE did, he best believe i am making every single dollar of it come from his pocket.

if he's over 18 (well 18 here in australia, maybe 21 there?) it's his responsibility. otherwise you'd be the adult in charge and it'd be your responsibility to ensure all passengers are wearing seatbelts.

thats how it rolls downunder. :P

I don't think there is a law in every state, but at least the majority do have one.

...In any case, I would make him pay my ticket because, here in IL, the driver is responsible for everyone, despite how old they are.

haha rambling is good for the soul ;) i assumed the US had similar laws to us, just figured it wasn't enforced as much or anything. both front and back passengers are required? or just front? i vaguely recall hearing about a country where it was just the front passengers.

And do keep up the rambles, they're a billion times more interesting than a shitty 6 word reply. =]

Depends on where you are. They're really cracking down on the law in the Chicagoland area. As far as I know, the law is that everyone in the vehicle is required to be wearing a seat belt. If they're not, the driver is responsible for everyone that's not wearing one. It may be different elsewhere.

Aside from that, I agree--I prefer rambles. They are far more interesting and slightly superior, even, to short replies. (:
